Dr. Lucia Kelleher
Dr Lucia Kelleher, a behavioural neuroscientist, discovered Busy Brain Syndrome (BBS) from her PhD studies. BBS manifests as attention overload due to too much environmental stimulus, which has seen the brain’s attentional bandwidth halved.
Lucia has decades of experience helping businesses develop people in safety critical roles to take personal responsibility for being safe people consistently.
PPE and rules do not make people safe. Statistics indicate little if any improvement over the past few decades with the rate of accidents and incidents where the ‘human element’ is the primary contributing factor.
The overarching ‘problem’ is that people ‘think’ they’re constantly focused, when in fact they’re not. This lack of focus is caused by their ‘brain’ being increasing locked on ‘autopilot’ – unbeknownst to them.
No one intends to lose focus, and the stark reality is that peoples ‘busy rains’ are an unacceptable modern day safety risk. More procedures, policies and rules contribute to that risk, compounding the problem.
