Greg Murphy, Professional Racing Driver
A professional racing driver for 20 years, Hastings born Greg Murphy, aka Murph, made his mark in Australian touring car racing, winning the Bathurst 1000 four times.
After relocating back to Havelock North from Melbourne at the end of 2013, he retired from the professional side of motorsport after the final endurance round in October 2014. Murph then took up a role with Supercars Television and a co-hosting role with Stephen McIvor on Sky’s SkySpeed.
He has been a passionate voice advocating for a review and redesign of the New Zealand driver licensing system and improvements to road safety through much better driver awareness training. He was instrumental in the creation of the StreetSmart Practical Driver awareness programme for young drivers which launched in Feb 2018.
Seven years after his last Bathurst 1000 appearance, Murph has been persuaded to return to “The Mountain” in a “wildcard” entry and will drive alongside fellow Kiwi Richie Stanaway in October this year.
Greg Murphy is married to Monique and they have three children, Ronan 20, Cormac 17 and Neve 13.
